U.S. Senator

Support the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act

What to say:

Urge your Senators to support the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act, House Bill 180.

Why it is important:

On July 31st, the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act (DADA) passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 418 to 1. But, before it can become law the Senate must take action.

Additional information:

The Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act will:

  • Protect states that divest;
  • Prohibit U.S. government contracts with companies fueling the genocide; and
  • Authorize states to prohibit contracts with companies fueling the genocide

This bill does not affect American companies and contains a provision that will take the legislation off the books when the genocide has ended.

States deserve protection for acting as responsible and moral market participants. Without this bill states are left vulnerable. For more information on targeted divestment, visit www.sudandivestment.org/divestment.
